Equipment Call | What Kind Of Glass?

Wednesday, 4 April 2007 @ 15:15

What’s everyone using out there? I still use my Canon 10D and love it. I’ve replaced the shutter once already and have probably close to 100K clicks. I’ve used the 5D a bit too and played with the 20D and 30D. I’m using the Canon Rebel XT here at work. I guess I’m a canon fan.

My fav lens for portraits and weddings is the 70-200mm IS 2.8L.
I have the 35mm 1.4L prime on my body 70% of the time.
My fav stylized lens is my 15mm Fisheye. I use it all the time. Can be fun for portraits too.

Anyone using the Fred Miranda forums?

I almost love Canon as much as I love Apple. I am a very loyal customer. I have had the 20D since it came out and am not interested in any other camera.

I can’t stand Nikon. I hate the way they feel in my hand and especially the shutter. It feels cheap to me; not like a precision instrument.

My primary lenses are the EF 17-40mm f/4L USM and the EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. I am currently saving my pennies for the EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM, as I could use a good middle of the road portrait lens and I want something with a low f-stop.

I had never heard of the Fred Miranda forums before your mention. I glanced at the site and it looks like it gets a lot of traffic. Do you recommend that as a good source for photography conversations?

In my opinion it is THE SOURCE. It gets a lot of traffic and the critiques on the forum are excellent. No bull crap – “Hey nice photo!” People let you know where your weaknesses are.

Nice gear – you gotta love the L series glass.

For digital I use a 20D with a 75-300mm IS lens. I mainly shoot B/W with my Hasselblad 500 CM with an 80mm Zeiss lens. I also shoot a lot of 4×5 with a Crown Graflex.

I am still in college and try to live within my means. Which I’ve been told by a friend that therein lies my problem.

Wow, I am jealous of your Hasselblad and Graflex. Do you have a gallery? I would love to see some of the shots from those cameras.

Cool Flash demo on how the Canon lenses are made:

Makes you appreciate the price tag a little more, doesn’t it.

I don’t have any scanned to show at the moment. I’m realy busy with school/work right now. After the summer I should get some up as I’m going to Scotland for the sole purpose to take photos. I don’t know who hosts the site but it would be great to have a gallery to post stuff for critique/sale?. I am however in the never ending process of creating a website.

Thanks for the suggestion about the site. I am gathering suggestions for improvements and/or additional features now that it is launched.
