Stock Photo Sites | Favorites?
Wednesday, 11 April 2007 @ 9:53I tend to favor Veer and Jupiter Images for stock. What other places are you all using? I like the stock imagery that Dave Groom and company use at Novell. I assume that includes the guys at Axis 41 as well. Sometimes it seems so hard to find the right stock - in the past I’ve taken a lot of the photography needed myself just to get the exact thing for the project.
I prefer to shoot (or at least direct) the imagery I need myself, but unfortunately that’s often out of the budget or available time. I end up at iStock a lot because of budget problems but am always frustrated as dollar stock is, well, dollar stock. After poking around the various sites I usually always return to Getty.
Getty? Really? I highly recommend Veer to anyone that delves into stock on a regular basis. Their customer service is stellar and they have the coolest merchandise. T-shirts, watches, stuff like that. A lot of times they’ll offer free merch with purchase of cd’s. Plus their site is totally functional and awesome.
I’ll have to give Veer a closer look. Getty’s website has significant usability issues.
Yea, the stuff we’ve used from Veer works pretty well. And though I know designers are supposed to be snobbish and hate stock photos—sometimes you’ll find a gem. I found a cool hi-res mountain scape photo on StockExpert that cost $5 that we used EVERYWHERE for our entire user conference, you just never know what you might find.
Getty, Veer, Corbis in a pinch.
At my work we end up using iStockPhoto.com. It is not my favorite quality wise, but it is cheap and has a decent collection of images in various formats. You don’t have to pay for a subscription, just pay per pic. (up to $15 - high res) and they also have video clips as well.
