Digital printing rubbing off
Wednesday, 2 May 2007 @ 12:54I do a lot of digital printing due to small quanty jobs. Particularly BCs and postcards. There is a significant problem with the ink rubbing off. On a BC, when you put several in a wallet, the front can rub onto the back. Very tacky and unprofessional. What do you do?
I’ve tried lamination, but that changes the colors too much. Next try is aqueous coating. Supposedly Mohawk Via’s digital sheet doesn’t rub off, but I don’t know that experientially.
What tips can you share?
I would have suggested aqueous coating. doesn’t really change the color, only the sheen. And it should keep that from happening.
Strange. I haven’t experience any issues with the ink on digital printed material rubbing off. What kind of paper are you using? Do you know what press is being used?
I’d check with your printer and ask them. If they’re any good they’ll tell you up front what might be causing it and possible solutions. If they look at you blankly, I’d run and find another printer immediately. That aside, I’d check the paper, then check the inks/toner. They obviously aren’t playing nice with each other. But for sure get a good pressworker! Worth their weight in gold…
