tanker rollover animation

Tuesday, 26 June 2007 @ 13:49

I have a contract to produce 4 of these. Got 3 done (one, two, three) and just wanted to get impressions from the group. I will post the 4th when its done. What do you think?

I’d like to see an explosion, personally.

Sparks. Needs sparks, scuff marks all over, crumpled metal, and black grind marks on the pavement. Also 4302 c looks like the truck is twitching at the end. It looks a little too anthropomorphic. And the wire spool in needs to look a bit more like it just fell off a truck (needs a bit more motion like a spun coin winding down). Otherwise, pretty good. 4302 needs more work as far as a more believable roll-over. It looks like the wheels are stuck in mud (or are they flat?) And then the way the truck appears to slide after the roll-over…eh…not so believable. Just my 2ยข.

frustrating to hear, I’m sure, because it’s the details that usually take the most work. I would at least throw some particle effects in there: sparks, as already stated, and some snow billowing out from under the truck as it collapses on to its side.

Are you in a position to talk about what this is for? I would be interested in knowing more about the project.

As far as particles and damage go. I only had 15 days to get them all done and there really wasn’t much money. I am over the 15 days by about a week so I skipped using morph targets for damage and particle effects. They weren’t that important to the client anyways. Though I really wanted to put them in, I also think sound would help a lot.

This is for training of some kind. The client is doing some flash based web training on tanker safety and they saw some of my previous work.

    What software are you using?

3ds Max 9, mental ray, reactor, photoshop, aftereffects, preimere, flash video encoder, vue 5, vehicle simulator, craft animation director tools.

Hey these are fun! I think on one and 3 I was thinking the sheer weight of the tanker would not allow it to bounce that much, but you really did a nice job on this, and I think it serves its purpose for training well.

Viro nice work. The physics look great in your animation. Nice lighting too.

Think these will be used for those trucker recruitment commericals right? Where you can get a Job making 50k with your wife each.
