The More Good Foundation has launched a redesign of their website. From the announcement on their blog:

The five-plus-year-old non-profit–founded by Dave Neeleman, Ken Woolley and Jim Engebretson, is an enabler of site and content creation that will allow for Mormons to define for themselves who they are, to reclaim the media conversation, actively dispelling misperceptions about us, and utilizing the “Net”–the New Media and Internet–to be fishers of men in our day– and to do so judiciously, safely, and in organized fashion.

The beautiful metaphor of the net, as the Savior shared it in Luke, included a call to be ‘fishers of men.’ In a meaningful moment of reflection, it occurred to MGF staff that this Internet of our day is much like the fishing net of old–it is, in one sense, a new metaphor for the gospel “net.” It is a tool of the gathering, the way through which the honest in heart can find the truth through anonymous and self-initiated searching and studying.”

After a couple years remaining on the list of portfolio projects to accomplish, I’ve finally succeeded in finalizing a snowboard design and sent it to production. Between obligations to client work and a perfectionist block about making the prime design, the project crept along for some time. About a year ago I got involved playing with fermat spirals and checking out surfboard patterns (which I often find to be more interesting in their streamlined design than the cacophony that sometimes clutters snowboards). Unfortunately, by the time I got enjoying those patterns, it was well into January and paying projects took center stage well into spring. Obviously, I’m a bit late this year, but at least there’s still plenty of boardable weeks remaining in the season.”

Still newer to the area, I need advice on if I need to apply for business license in order to freelance in Salt Lake County.

I recently received a contract which asked if I had a business license. Do I need a business license? I work as a self employed, freelance Graphic Designer. I am a sole proprietor, no one works for me. I work primarily for other agencies and occasionally directly with clients. I work both on premises and in my home studio/office. So far, I’ve only been asked to provide agencies with a W-9 form.

I Googled and found information that seamed a bit conflicting: Page 12 of this pdf it lists businesses that must register. It does not mention Graphic or Web Design. But I also found this webpage which may suggest I need to.

I’ve lived and freelanced in 2 other states and Canada, two of which I was required to collect sales tax and had to register to charge, collect and pay the tax. I’ve never been required to obtain a business license. I’ve always just used my SSN or SIN.

Peer expertise and advice on this is greatly appreciated.

To Provo Craft’s dismay, only 3 were returned, and Donnie K the bounty hunter was contracted to track down the other 10. Donnie K proves to be no match for the “crafter types? he’s tracking, his failures are plastered all over Facebook, Twitter, and the blogosphere.
