Struck has launched a “social-viral” campaign to advertise the new Gypsy from Provo Craft. It is a handheld device for creating designs for the popular craft cutting tool Cricut.

In a fictitious scenario, Provo Craft sent out 13 of their new Gypsy devices to be tested by crafters across the country. To Provo Craft’s dismay, only 3 were returned, and Donnie K the bounty hunter was contracted to track down the other 10. Donnie K proves to be no match for the “crafter typesâ€? he’s tracking, his failures are plastered all over Facebook, Twitter, and the blogosphere. Viral videos recount how Beth, Rhonda, Nancy and others make him look like an amateur. Basically, in an effort to create hype around the new scrapbooking product – the Gypsy – Struck also created the epic failure known as Donnie K. …“I wouldn’t have caught ‘er. She was wearing a wind suit.â€? …We know Donnie. We know.

The campaign includes a website, <a href=http://www.youtube.com/roguegypsies">videos on YouTube, a Facebook profile, Twitter posts, a blog, and a gallery of photos on Flickr.

I drove up to Tibblefork reservoir with my daughter this morning to go exploring. There was still more snow than I expected, but we had a great time. There were people sledding, a few fishermen, and some ducks braving the cold water. The wind was cold but it was beautiful. Between the sun ducking in and out of the clouds, I was able to get some great shots around the water. It was very interesting seeing nature in transition—the old melting away and the new beginning to bud. I was especially intrigued by the algae growing on the retaining walls and enjoyed trying to catch water droplets falling from a shrinking bank of snow.

Your baby pulls a thousand faces, and I know you love each one. Even the sad and mad faces are adorable in photographs! I bet you’ve noticed, as your baby develops those faces change. Those little expressions can appear for a month or two and then disappear as they keep growing. … I’ve heard so many moms say that they wish they could see “that face again.â€? … So, I started to create personality storyboards for younger kids. They show off all of your little one’s happiest, funniest, and maddest faces so you can continue to cherish them forever!

Recently, I have really been enjoying artwork that is a composition of crisp vector art overlaid on a collage of disposable or old, out of style materials. Is there a name for this style, even if just slang? What would you call combining these mediums is this way? I find the intersection between rough and smooth stimulating. Consider the following two examples done on a creased, heavy brown paper and old wallpaper with floral and stripped patterns.

I love the energy that I can feel in the pieces. Perhaps they are the work of multiple artists—photographers and illustrators—but the assumed adventure of discovery and creation is exciting to me. I enjoy looking for things everyday items such as this that most people would pass by and imagining what story it is trying to tell.

Timothy and Heidi Uhl of Retrospect Studios have launched a new website for their wedding photography business. They have some beautiful work. I would recommend browsing their galleries.

Their new site was designed by Timothy, who is also a designer and web developer and is currently working for Red Olive Design in South Jordan. Other work has taken Timothy to Microsoft and Doug Crouch Photography, as an assistant servicing clients such as America West Airlines, Fender Guitar, and Arizona Mist. In addition to personal interests such as the internet, scuba diving, mountain biking, fishing, and cooking, he has won Web Development and Travel and Tourism DEX Utah State CDC awards, and is a member of the Utah Advertising Federation, the National Association of Photoshop Professionals, and the Salt Lake College Marketing Program Advisory Committee.

Thanks, Cameron, for the news.
