[UGAF] RefreshSLC

I also wanted to try to organize something social for designers. In
Portland, Oregon there was a subset of AIGA called dMob:

A social meeting is held the third Thursday of every month - typically
at a bar or pub. The premise being that you buy a beer or a soda for
someone and get to know that person - thus allowing for a laid back
opportunity to network and get to know others in the field. Occasionally
they are held at agencies as well - which is a cool experience.

While I think design related outings are great, I really enjoyed all of
the people I was able to meet and get to know. I would love to see
something more social such as these events happen here in Utah.

Hey, that's two in favor! Great. Here is a little more info on what
I'm thinking. Would you all be kind enough to give me some specific
feedback on the following?

I'm a programmer and active in the Ruby community. I'm the founding
member of the organization that put on the MountainWest RubyConf last
month. For that event we used the Salt Lake City auditorium. Its a
fantastic venue and the moment I saw it I thought that we need to have a
Refresh in the area.
But I don't want to put on any ordinary meeting or get-together, I want
something that shines alot of attention on the many innovative things
folks in the area are doing.

My vision for the Refresh is that instead of monthly meetings, we hold a
quarterly meeting. But it should really be more of an event. Something
special that folks will make an effort to attend. I say this because
there are several Ruby groups in the Salt Lake area, and I believe the
quality of presentations at the meetings has suffered because of the
dilution of talent. I think of the Refresh as the best of the various
disciplines coming together for some world-class presentations.
Basically, I want presentations that are worth the expense of AV capture
and online distribution.

That's just where my head is at. Obviously, if this group and the other
groups want something different it'll be different. But any opinions on
this or ideas you have is very much appreciated.

~Mike
