[UGAF] selecting object below in AI

In InDesign you can hold down command while you click and it will  
allow you to select objects that are below other objects. Is there  
anyway to do the same thing in Illustrator? I hate having to drag- 
select over the group and the deselect the top objects until I am  
finally left with the single, bottom item that I want.
